Edwards back in the race: New poll shows 3-way tie in Nevada

Someone forgot to tell the voters that the Edwards campaign was over. According to the latest poll from the Reno Gazette-Journal, there is a three-way-tie as we head into the final hours before the Saturday caucus.
According to the paper, “The poll was conducted Jan. 11 to Jan. 13 , with samples of 500 likely Democratic caucus-goers and 500 likely Republican caucus-goers statewide by Maryland-based Research 2000. The margin of error is 4.5 percent.”
It is the only current poll available from Nevada.
Oh, and one more thing. Four years ago, John Edwards got only 10% in Nevada. He’s now polling three times that amount, against Clinton and Obama.
As Mark Twain would have put it, reports of this campaign’s demise have been somewhat exaggerated.

The poll by Research 2000 for the same period has it
Obama 32, Clinton 30, Edwards 27. (It may be the same poll.) Clearly within the margin of error. I think all of the polls for Nevada have to be suspect since these caucuses have never been such serious political events before. No one can be quite certain who is going to turn out. The court case over the location of polling places may discourage turnout or it may mobilize latino voters who feel that the suit is really aimed at them.
Certainly if Edwards can win or even come in second it will give his campaign new life, which it really needs.
The other interesting thing to look at is the Michigan result. Because Michigan broke the rules by moving it primary before February 5th, it has been punished by losing its delegates. Most of the candidates, out of solidarity, did not leave their name on the ballot. Clinton did. There is a last minute effort to encourage democratic voters to vote uncommitted. to the extent that this effort is even moderately successful it will be a measure of the anti-Clinton sentiment. Moreover many insiders feel that a deal of somekind will be worked out down the road.
