{"id":357,"date":"2010-04-04T17:04:42","date_gmt":"2010-04-04T16:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ericlee.info\/blog\/?p=357"},"modified":"2010-04-27T13:27:33","modified_gmt":"2010-04-27T12:27:33","slug":"amnesty-it-would-not-be-helpful-to-debate-gita-saghals-case-at-the-agm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ericlee.info\/blog\/amnesty-it-would-not-be-helpful-to-debate-gita-saghals-case-at-the-agm\/","title":{"rendered":"Amnesty: &#8220;It would not be helpful&#8221; to debate Gita Saghal&#8217;s case at the AGM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The following is the response I received from Amnesty International\u2019s UK section following the submission of my emergency resolution to the annual general meeting.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dear Eric<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for submitting your resolution on Gita Saghal.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately we are not able to accept this resolution.<\/p>\n<p>There is currently an investigation under way at the International<br \/>\nSecretariat in relation to Gita Saghal which is being carried out in<br \/>\naccordance with the IS\u2019s established human resource policies and UK<br \/>\nemployment law. \u00a0The investigation is clearly carried out<br \/>\nconfidentially in line with established human resource practices and<br \/>\naccordingly we do not believe it would be helpful, or carry any weight<br \/>\nin the outcome of this investigation, for the AGM to debate the specific issue of Ms Saghal\u2019s employment<\/p>\n<p>If you disagree, you may have 3 minutes time on Saturday morning in plenary to ask conference to overturn our decision. \u00a0If you get a two-thirds majority, the resolution will be debated.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m sorry to disappoint you.<\/p>\n<p>Ruth Breddal<br \/>\nStanding Orders Committee<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following is the response I received from Amnesty International\u2019s UK section following the submission of my emergency resolution to the annual general meeting.
