Can I help your union?

I have been designing websites since the early 1990s, have worked with Perl, PHP, XHTML, CSS, RSS, JavaScript, etc. The websites I build for unions are low-cost, quick to setup, easy to run and provide practical, timely information for members. Of the more than 100 websites I have designed, here are ten of my favorites:

LabourStart My flagship site. The news and campaigning website of the international trade union movement. Multilingual, database driven, a pioneer in use of newswires (JavaScript and XML); see the online campaigns, mailing list, integration of ecommerce elements, etc.
International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations (IUF). The website of this 12,000,000 member global union federation includes blogs, a members area (password protected), databases of news and editorials, online campaigns, and much more — working in a wide range of languages.
Napo. This is Britain’s trade union for family court and probation staff. Its general secretary was the first in the country to have a daily blog, and the site features very popular discussion forums, blogs, several databases, mini-sites for all union branches, etc.
National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers (RMT) Bristol Rail Branch. An example of a very successful local union website I built, again based llargely on low-cost blogging software.
General Federation of Iraqi Workers I’m quite proud of this one — it’s the official website of the new Iraqi trade union movement which emerged from the nderground following the fall of Saddam Hussein. The site works in English and Arabic.
Cambodian Apparel Workers’ Democratic Union A website built for free on Typepad, using blogging software.
Global Labour Institute An amazing repository of documentation of the global labour movement and democratic Left, built using MovableType.
International Development Website of the Co-operative College’s International Development Programme. A small site, it is based on blogging software and also includes an extensive photo database.
StreetGames My first website for a charity, StreetGames is a UK-based group which promotes sport for young people living in the most disadvantaged communities. The site was one of the first ones I built on the Drupal platform.
Michael Meacher MP The website of one of Britain’s best known Members of Parliament. Built on the basis of MovableType blogging software.
